CONTEXT

Timeline

9 weeks + continuous work behind the scenes.

Scope

As a freelance UX designer, I was contracted to create a website that brought in users and also provided a platform for DocChatPro.

PROBLEM

Necessity for integrated tutorials and an onboarding experience.

DocChatPro as a standalone app already had a solid framework with clear use cases. The issue was that many people couldn’t understand how or why to use the app intuitively without first being introduced to the app and what it could do.

SOLUTION

Seamlessly onboard users and incorporate the app into an end-to-end user experience.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

Successful competitors prioritize seamless user experiences and engaging visuals to satisfy customers.

Analyzing successful competitors in the industry revealed the significance of delivering a user-centered website experience that effectively communicates Doc Chat Pro's unique value proposition, fosters trust, and provides an intuitive and engaging onboarding process. By leveraging UX design principles, there was an opportunity to create a visually compelling and informative website that seamlessly integrated the app's functionalities, educated users about its benefits, and drove increased user engagement and adoption. Through a cohesive and immersive end-to-end experience, Doc Chat Pro could establish itself as a trusted and user-friendly solution in the market, attracting and retaining a loyal user base.

USER INTERVIEWS

Previous websites my interviewees explored failed due to a LACK of transparency.

Based on the trends in my affinity map, I noticed how users were frustrated when they couldn't find clear information about the app's pricing model, data security measures, or the exact features they would have access to. This lack of transparency led to doubts and concerns about the app's credibility and value the app would bring, causing users to hesitate and potentially abandon the onboarding process. It's crucial for Doc Chat Pro to address this by providing transparent and comprehensive information about its features, pricing, data privacy, and any limitations, fostering trust and ensuring users feel confident in their decision to use the app.

INSIGHTS

Interviewees stressed the importance of a coherent process, where they could smoothly transition from the website to the app and quickly get acquainted with Doc Chat Pro.

PERSONA

Constraints - streamlining division of work for a small team sprint.

DESIGN

I had a meeting with the project’s creator where we went through every detail of the website and discussed what had to be there, what might need to be included, and what we could cut. We came to the conclusion that aside from the home page there were only 3 bits of content that had to be present on the site, aside from the onboarding details and the app itself: about, privacy policy, and terms of service. On top of that, the creator had some constraints for me to work under. Since he would be leading development on the project, and he wanted it to move as quickly as possible, I was only to create the essential screens, while he would handle other elements. I was to focus on the onboarding details and the landing page. I was not to have a hand in developing the dashboard for the app itself, since had already been implemented in a working state, and time constraints stopped him from adding to or changing the app in any substantial way. Going forward with this knowledge I went to sketch some solutions, then delivered them for critique. We talked through the various iterations, and decided together on a functional version with which I would go ahead prototyping in lo-fidelity.

TESTING + REFINEMENTS

3 major refinements in my design

Over the course of the project I continuously iterated on the design, with a couple of major revisions based on several rounds of user testing and feedback from the project creator, as well as my peers and mentor.

CONCLUSION + LOOKING BACK

What I learned and what I’d do differently next time.

This was one of my first truly collaborative professional projects, and it felt great. Building something we could share the experience and pride in having made is satisfying in a different way than working as a solo designer, and I get more enjoyment out of being part of a team working toward a common goal.

  1. Be Comfortable Working Within Boundaries. While I didn’t feel good initially about not having a hand in designing and testing certain pages, and the dashboard for the app itself, I realized it’s important to understand the limits and constraints on time and manpower for a project. As a UX designer, I have a tendency to focus on the end-to-end experience for users, but in this case my role was focused on experience associated with onboarding tasks while DocChatPro’s founder targeted the app. I believe it’s important to work within the boundaries to meet deadlines, and then take on additional tasks if time permits.

  2. Empathy-Driven Design. Throughout this project, I've come to understand the paramount importance of empathy in design. By putting myself in the shoes of users like Sarah, Mark, and Lisa, I was able to deeply understand their needs, pain points, and motivations. This empathetic approach guided me in creating a user-centered design that truly addresses their challenges and provides value.

  3. Seamless Collaboration. Collaboration played a pivotal role in the success of this project. Working closely with the project creator and involving them in every stage of the design process ensured that their vision and requirements were aligned with the final product. Seeking feedback and incorporating valuable insights from the project creator, as well as other stakeholders, allowed me to refine the design and make it more impactful. This collaborative approach fostered a sense of ownership and led to a better overall outcome.
